Abstaining from Sex Until Marriage (Part 7: EMPOWERMENT vs. embarrassment)

Part 7: EMPOWERMENT vs. embarrassment

I chose to abstain from sex until I got married because I believe preserving virginity is not just for women, it is equally applied to men. Was it easy?, I was hoping, but it was not, and I am thankful I was able to surpassed this. I believe that my wife and I will not be victorious without the help of God. Yes, It is God all along, I tried to avoid being spiritual here but all these things goes back to God.

It is empowering to know that God is with us every step of the way so things become easier. I believe it is a man's responsibility to preserve the purity of his partner by NOT asking and it is the woman's  responsibility to say NO when the man asked. It goes both ways.

Abstaining from sex will prevent you from possible embarrassment due to unintended pregnancy. The best thing to do to avoid unintended pregnancy, worries and emotional issues is to abstain from sex, period. It will be beneficial to both of you knowing that your relationship is not just for sexual satisfaction.

It doesn't matter if your friends will ridicule you because you chose to abstain from sex until marriage as long as you know that it is the right thing to do. God will surely strengthen you, guide you and empower you.

In the end, it is still a choice but choose wisely.

Abstaining from Sex Until Marriage (Part 6: COMMITMENT vs. control)

Part 6: COMMITMENT vs. Control

"You may now kiss the bride" ,the priest said this word after every wedding ceremony and it means "You now have God's  blessings, go, and multiply".

I believe that the prerequisite of having sex with someone is to have a commitment. A commitment to do it with only one person within the boundary of marriage. Sex is a benefit for married people.

The problem with today's society is sex becomes casual, sex becomes an experiment and sex becomes a benefit for all. You can even get it wherever and whenever you want it without the commitment. God does not designed sex this way, it was designed to be holy and pure. But what about pleasure?, J. Budziszewski said "But by His design, pleasure is a by-product-an outgrowth of other things that are more important."

Without commitment, control sets in. Unwanted pregnancies leads to unplanned marriages, unplanned marriage leads to separations (in most cases). Decissions controlled by a situation, commitment were set aside. I strongly believe that there is no such thing as accidental pregnancy, whenever there is sexual intercourse, the chance of getting pregnant is high.

"If you love me, you will do it with me", l'm sure this line is familiar, what is wrong about this line is there is a manipulation and control to force a partner to do it out of "love" but it is not. If you love a person, you wait for the right time for this to happen.

Focus on strengthening your relationship minus the physical Intimacies. In case that the relationship does not work, it will be easier for you to move on and let go of the person, (in most cases it applies to women) because you did not gave up your viginity.

Abstaining from Sex Until Marriage (Part 5: IMPORTANCE vs. instant gratification)

Part 5 : IMPORTANCE  vs. Instant gratification

The purity of sex is important to God. If it is important to God, it should be important to us, not just for women but also for men. Sex is not just instant gratification.

Sex is created by God and was designed to be enjoyed within the sacred boundary of marriage and for the specific purpose of procreation. Sex and marriage go together, inseparable so to speak. Both are an expression of a lifetime commitment; and sex outside of marriage becomes a false expression of love.

Randy Alcorn said in his article "Guideline to Sexual Purity", "Sex is something everyone can abstain from--it is a strong desire, yes, but never an emergency, never a necessity.

The Bible does not say, "Sex never ends" but LOVE is. It is very very important that we learn to express love in different ways and sex is reserved only for married couple, because sex, honor and responsibility goes hand in hand. Sex create a powerful bonds between individuals. Sexual union is deep, not just a desire.

In Thessalonians 4:3-5 says "That you should abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust."

So it is very important that you preserve your virginity, it will save you from any untoward problems if the relationship does jot work. Sex is a gift, a gift from God for the newly wed couple on their wedding night, unwrapping it before the designated time will just spoil the excitement of opening a gift.

Abstaining from Sex Until Marriage (Part 4: OBEDIENCE vs. option)

Part 4: OBEDIENCE vs. option

I said that preserving virginity is a choice, but now it is obedience, I was confused as you are but I realized that obedience is also a choice, whether you follow God's call or not, is still up to you.

You have the option not to follow God's plan. God love us so much that is why He gave us the free will to decide on our own. If things are being imposed, we are like robots following mechanically and not freely.

But what are the benefits of obeying God's call to purity, They are too many to mention, here are some benefits of obeying God's call to purity:

  • 》You are 100% sure that you wont become a parent until you are married and ready.
  • 》Moving on is easier if the relationship falls apart and leads to break-up.
  • 》You will develop a strong relationship with the person you are dating.
  • 》Strengthens your relationship with your parents and friends because you wont be hiding anythin
  • 》For women: You will know that the person you love is interested in building a relationship with you, emotionally and spiritually and not with your body.

Abstaining from Sex until Marriage (Part 3: HONOR vs. human urge)

Part 3: HONOR vs. human urge

I read in one of showbiz news that a guy's first kiss with his wife is right after their wedding. For me this act is honorable, his gesture is symbolic.

As we know (even if I will not mentioned their names) The wife was involved in a controversy, It would be easier for the guy to take advantage of her past but instead, chose the path less traveled. He chose to honor her wife, by not kissing her lips (and abstaining from sex) until they got married, restoring her dignity and her purity tainted by the controversy.

As we aged, human urges (in this case sexual urges) will subside and will soon be gone but honoring your future spouse by not engaging in sex before marriage is lifetime, you will both remember it for the rest of your life.

My wife and I are blessed and do not regret the path we chose and we are now enjoying the beauty of sex. Sex is not just human urge, it also includes relationship and a blessing from God.

Asking someone to fulfill your sexual desire is selfish and abusive even if the person you are dating is willing.

Sexual intercourse lasted only for a few minutes but the honor you give your future spouse is lifetime. Besides, love is proven not just by removing ones clothes but by honoring and respecting woman.

Love can be express in many ways, sex is just one of them and should be in the context of marriage.

Previously: COURAGE vs. criticism

Abstaining from Sex Until Marriage (Part 2: COURAGE vs. criticism)

Part 2: COURAGE vs. criticism

Choosing to preserve virginity until marriage needs a lot of courage, more so, declaring it.  You will make yourself vulnerable to criticism, people may accused you of being self righteous or worst they wont believe you at all.

In today's society, its kind of normal to engage in PMS (premarital sex) but the truth is, it is just being tolerated. Why?, some says its more practical, some said they love each other anyway, so it is not bad to do it outside of marriage. The more people who do PMS the more it became accepted. Many people may say, "Everybody is doing it anyway", I don't think so, there are lots of people who are courageous enough to chose this path, courageous because we are opposing what is "normal".

Honestly, it is just today that I found the courage to tell my story. I was afraid of the criticism and I was afraid of questions that people may ask me. Questions that I might not able to answer. I am not convincing you, This is just an honest to goodness testimony, I don't mind if I will be criticized after this, at least I was able to write what I want to write a long long time ago.

Abstaining from Sex Until Marriage (Part 1: Introduction)

I wrote this article not for anyone else but for my two daughters who are still young. This is my own way of preparing them when they reach the legal age. If you think this is useful, thank you but if it is not, don't read this. I have no intention of  hurting anyone else or giving lecture. This is my own thoughts and I just want to express it for my kids.

Part 1: Introduction

Virginity is one of the most controversial and sensitive issue that anyone could discuss, In fact, I kept my own thoughts on this for years before I broke my silence today.

I was inspired by the confession of a showbiz personality that she is still a virgin and will not have sex before marriage. I thought that it is a courageous effort on her part. People may ridicule her, some may raise their eye brows, or shrug their shoulders as if saying "who cares". Many were criticized because of their declaration on preserving their virginity, physical or spiritual virginity (spiritual or secondary virginity is about people who lost their virginity but decided not to have sex again until marriage).

Is this all about morality?, I am gonna be in trouble if I say yes. I believe it is a C.H.O.I.C.E., preserving virginity or not having sex before marriage is a choice and this is not just for people who follow the teaching of the bible and the church. Choice is for everyone, choice is free will.

There are six things (probably there are more) I want to highlight on why I chose this path using the letters from the word "CHOICE".

Have a Break, Have a K.I.T.K.A.T.

K.I.T.K.A.T. is one of my comfort food, whenever I bite one I feel more relax and at ease.

Life is sometimes not easy or for many life is not easy at all. I just thank God that my problem is not that hard compare with some who are having difficulties in life, unresolved conflicts and trials that are too big to handle.

Whenever I am feeling down or sometimes hopeless, I just look on the Cross and I sigh in relief. After all, it is more difficult to be hang on the cross.

"Thank you Jesus for taking my place, I should be the one hanging on the cross."

Maybe "hang on" was derived from Jesus' experience. He was crucified on the cross just to save us. He endured the pain and suffering. Jesus is telling us to hang on, just like he did. Whenever we have problems just hang on, whenever we are in difficult situation, just hang on and whenever things seems to be hopeless, just hang on. What we are experiencing now is our cross, just hang on because your victory is at hand.

When you are down, have a break and have a K.I.T.K.A.T

I-kaw ang
K-ong kalakasan

Have a nice day to all

P.S.: As I was reviewing this post, I was amazed with what I have discovered. If you look closely into the photo above. You will find the words "Protected Zone". In my profession, "Protected Zone" means you cannot weld, attached, put a hole or bolt anything within this area.

I realized that I am also in the "Protected Zone", in the arms of Jesus. No one can harm me and no one could defeat me because of His protection.

I will just sit and relax within the "Protected Zone" and eat my Kitakat.

Drinking Coffee will never be the same Again

Drinking C.O.F.F.E.E. will never be the same again.

After experiencing the loving presence of God "with style" while our family where stucked in Aguinaldo Highway with heavy rainfall, drinking coffee will never be the same again.

A few months ago, I asked the Lord for a cup of coffee in the middle of traffic jam. It was raining like there is a typhoon. I was too sleepy maybe because we were not ...moving for more than 4 hours. So said " Lord can I have a cup of coffee?"

30 minutes later, two men were shouting "Coffee!!, great taste coffee!!". I was amazed, God listened in every prayers and he answered with style.

Why it took Him 30min. before he answered my prayer. I believe He was heating the pot and was looking for the best coffee in town.

It was the best coffee I ever tasted because God brew it for me and my family

I Share C.O.K.E. to Anyone

I was looking for the bottle of C.O.K.E where my name is printed on the label. A new brilliant ads of Coca cola.

I am determined to find all my family's name, as of today I found two, without really even trying. I bought it randomly, hoping that the store owner will give me the right bottle.

My reflection on this:

God is not looking for the lost randomly and when He found one, He will prepare a banquet to celebrate. When I found God or rather when He found me, He is so happy to see me in His loving arms.

I share a coke with friends and relatives, it is refreshing but nothing compares with the living water that God is offering.

Now, I share C.O.K.E. to anyone, I was once lost and now I am found and I want to share God to all.

I share C-hrist is O-ur only K-ing and no one E-lse

Have a nice day to all

Are You Ready to Dance with the Lord?

Are you ready to dance with the Lord?

This morning, I was feeling frustrated, sad maybe. I know that God is in control of everything but sometimes I am getting impatient. I am still a human afterall.

I was grumpy the whole morning until an officemate gave me a mug, a free item when you buy a box of Nesvita (I am not endorsing this product, I just need to mention it)

The Lord spoke to me through this mug. Two things...

Firstly, God reminded me through the picture on this mug, and He said:

"Son, are you ready to dance with me? even in times of frustrations, sorrows and defeat? If yes, your victory is coming, the best is on its way. Whatever you are experiencing right now is just a temporary setback, You will see and experience my avalanche of blessings. In the meantime, let's dance so that you will enjoy this journey"

Secondly, through the name of the product.

S-top until you are

I felt better, thank you Lord for these reminders.

Starbucks Coffee, Tagaytay-Calamba Road

Starbucks Coffee, Tagaytay-Calamba  Road is one of the best if not the best branch of Starbucks Coffee I visited. It is situated along Calamba Road near the Rotunda. Complete with amenities such as ample parking space, seats (most of the space is arranged like a living room minus a 42" flat screen, al least it's I imagined it) and view decks for you to enjoy the beauty of Taal Volcano while sipping your Frapuccino.

Starbucks Coffee, Tagaytay-Calamba  Road feels like home away from home where you don;t need to spend more to relax.

I will definitely visit this branch again when I return to Tagaytay.

NOTE: Don't forget to bring your pocket wi-fi for they still charge for the use of their internet connection (I wonder when will they follow other Coffee Shops where wi-fi used is for free for a minimum order.

It is best to visit this branch during weekdays for many people flock here on weekends and holidays.

TRIVIA: A friend of mine, who is a Structural Engineer designed the structures.

How to get here:

When you reach the Rotunda in Tagaytay, turn left to Calamba Road, you will find the Starbucks Coffee, Tagaytay-Calamba Road a few meters away from Rotunda.

Noah's Leisure Park Resort and Hotel

Noah's Leisure Park Resort and Hotel is situated near the foot of the Sierra Madre in Montalban, Rizal, It was opened to the public in 2009 (I am not sure if the resort was damaged by Typhoon Ondoy). There is a mini Noah’s ark replica at the entrance where you could take a few snap shot before entering the resort. Try to climb up the resort’s hanging bridge for a great view of the resort (price is included in the entrance fee, one time use only).

The resort have a team building obstacle courses which includes trampoline, rappelling and wall climbing area (though this is not available for the time being, needs repair), playground, garden maze, man-made lake and four (4) swimming pools. Zip line are also available, though I believe this is part of the obstacle course.

We were just blessed to used their facilities almost exclusively so better to go here during weekdays. Holidays and weekends are different story.

I like their chapel were you could spend a silent time with God. You can also check-in in their hotels if you want to enjoy  and  explore more of its facilities. There is a small pool exclusively for guests used only.

Generally, we enjoyed our stay here in Noah's Leisure Park Resort and Hotel, we will most likely return here for more exciting vacation. I only hope that the pool's water will be clearer and cleaner on our next visit.

How to Get Here:

  • If you will bring your own car: Just follow the map below (click to enlarge image.) NOTE: There is a right of way fee of P20 a few meters away to Noah’s Leisure Park Resort and Hotel. The collecting officers said that the road going to Noah’s Leisure Park Resort and Hotel is a private road (Flora Bautista et. al) but I am still verifying this claim because there is a housing project nearby so there is a possibility that the right of way is already bought by the developer of the subdivision.
  • If you will use the public transportation: Ride either a jeepney or an FX Taxi with a Montalban sign at Cubao Terminal in Gateway or Farmer’s Plaza, alight at Total Gas Station in San Isidro, Montalban (just tell the driver) and then just ride an orange tricycle (Fare is P15 per person minimum of 3 person) going to Noah’s Leisure Park Resort and Hotel. Don’t forget to make an arrangement with the driver to pick you up, to ensure your ride later in the afternoon when you are about to go home.

Visita Iglesia 2014

It was my 2nd Visita Iglesia, the 1st one was in 2008 and we visited only six (6) churches located within one (1) Kilometer radius from our house. This time, we visited 14 churches (representing the 14 Stations of the Cross) located as far as Baras, Rizal to the busy City of Makati.

The original plan was to visit churches located in the Province of Rizal but our hotel reservation in Angono, Rizal was cancelled, so I had to revise the original list because we were able to get an accommodation in Makati City. I removed from my list one (1) church each in Boso-Boso (Antipolo), Tanay and Pililia all in Rizal.

I prepared special prayers and intentions depending on the significance of the church we visited. For example, St. Clement is the patron saint of sailors, so we pray for all seafarers (for my brother) when we visited St. Clement Parish Church in Morong, Rizal. Another is the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Parish Church in Makati City [where my wife and I got married eight (8) years ago], we pray for our marriage and our relationship, and so on.

We exactly began our Visita Iglesia at exactly 7 in the morning. May calculation was we should finished by 4 in the afternoon. I was not able to take into consideration the traffic condition (for one, it took us more than an hour before we arrived at St. Pio Chapel in Libis, Quezon City) and other factors such as buying pasalubong, detours and “wiwi” breaks. Even if I made some adjustments a long the way, we still did not finished on time. At 9:30 in the evening, we finished the Way of the Cross.

I will write about each church we visited in the coming days (History, cultures and practices I witnessed and lesson learned from my children).

14 churches, 2 Cities and 9 Towns, 14 prayer intensions, 14 Stations of the Cross, 93 kilometer distance and 14.5 hours, I am more than blessed with the experience. I will do it again next year for sure, if where? I am not sure though.

I hope this will help you when you plan your Visita Iglesia next year.

See above photo for the locations of the churches we visited:
B.     Immaculate Conception Parish Church, Marikina City
C.     Shrine of Our Lady of the Abandoned, Marikina City

Good Friday 2014

Since 1987, I am not missing the celebration of the Easter Triduum, in-fact I am looking forward to this every year. This year is different and it's my first time to missed the celebration.
I was told not to post these pictures because it's Good Friday, but this is what I realized, I may missed this year's Easter Triduum and I may be celebrating this week differently but it is more uplifting to spend it this way, with my family and give in to the requests of my kids.
The reason why I have Good Friday and good days is because Jesus Christ died for my sins so that I could celebrate it with a loving wife and kids.

Holy Thursday 2014

This was my 2nd time to do a "Visita Iglesia (The 1st time was in 2006, I guess). We Visited 14 churches to represent 14 stations of the cross, as far as Baras, Rizal to the busy city of Makati, it took as 16 hours to finished.
I experienced different cultures and traditons but what struck me the most was on our 13th Church, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Chapel in Libis, Quezon City. The Way of the Cross with a twist, All are carrying their own cross, from 1x1 (lightest) wooden cross up 4x4 wooden cross (the heaviest).
We were all amazed by the gestures of my two little princesses, they hold the end of the cross and told us, they want to help in carrying our cross... wow!!!, almost teary eyed, this made my day...
Thanks to my 2 kids, it make sense now, Our cross will be a burden if we don't allow others to help
Ah!, another learning from our children.
Have a blessed Holy Week to all.

Rise Up and Shine

My first attempt to write a song was in 1995, back then; I was only new in the Music Ministry of our Parish in Marikina City. I don’t even have the formal trainings and courses in Music, all I have is the guts and faith that God will use me to serve His people through music.

Years and years of perseverance before I gained a little of the skills of a true songwriters. In fact, I laug...h at my own previous compositions, but at the same time nostalgic because every song I wrote has its own story to tell. They may not sound good but it helped me a lot to acquire more knowledge and skills for me to be ready for the fulfillment of my dream. I desire to record the songs I wrote and put it together in an album, and that ONE DESIRE remain in me. I had sleepless nights thinking about the project, day in day out, but I don’t have the resources to fulfill it. So I forget about it, temporarily.

In 2012, the desire of making my dream a reality came back but this time I am determined of fulfilling this dream. All I need is to get out of my comfort zone and take a leap of faith that God will help me every step of the way. He planted in me this seed and it grow every single day and now it bears fruits, and I need to share it.

I constantly prayed "Lord, I know this is not easy but I offer everything to you. Use me, mold me, and cleanse me so that everything I do is only for Your glory. Raise my gift but lower me. HERE I AM LORD; I am ready and LET YOUR GLORY SHINE through me.

I focused on the "WHY" and not on the "HOW" and He revealed it to me through the years.

I am OVERJOYED with what the LORD has done for me, so join me and CELEBRATE His wonders and His mighty deeds. Nineteen (19) years in the making but it is worth the wait. Truly, God is the AUTHOR OF MY LIFE and what he has written will become a reality.

Now, I RISE UP AND SHINE for the Lord.

May His presence be FULLY ALIVE in you and I hope you will be blessed as I am blessed doing this project.

Matthew 17:20 ---- He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Rejoice Always...

Just this morning...riding on a private car (Not Mine, since I am not allowed to use my car because of the Number Coding Scheme in Metro Manila).

Me: San po daan nyo?  (Where do you go from here?)

Girl: C-5
Me: (Oopps!!), okay
My wife: San ka bababa n'yan? (My wife is working in Makati so it doesn't matter if we use C-5 or EDSA Route)

Me: I made a sign of ssshh?!

I was praying that they will change their mind to use the EDSA route instead going to Makati, since my office is near Crossing, Manaluyong  so there's no chance that I won't be late if we will headed   C-5 (their usual route I guess, so I did not ask if we could use the EDSA route), out of way for me...

The husband said: Traffic!! (Flyover going to C-5, Tiendesitas) Girl: Gusto mo mag EDSA ka na lang?, mas may chance tayo dun. (Do you want us to use EDSA route instead?, we have better chance there)

I was thanking God...

I was jumping for joy, what more if I will win my own battle, frenzy I guess. I believe God will make all things possible..easiest or the toughest things I may face.

I choose to J.U.M.P
M-akes all things
